Russian President Vladimir Putin met with Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Rus’ on the 15th anniversary of his enthronement.
“I cordially and sincerely congratulate you on the holiday, on the day of enthronement. It’s been 15 years. I think you didn’t even notice how these fifteen years flew by. Thank you for your efforts,” the head of state told the primate of the Russian Orthodox Church (quote from website Kremlin).
In response, Patriarch Kirill thanked the president for maintaining a high level of church-state relations. According to him, it is thanks to this that in recent years it has been possible to open new dioceses, churches and monasteries in Russia. “The most important thing is a very broad work with young people, with children – something that was really banned for many years in our country, and something that is now actively developing,” he added.
Patriarch Kirill became the primate of the Russian Orthodox Church on February 1, 2009, on this day his enthronement took place (a solemn service during which the newly elected patriarch is elevated to the patriarchal see). Before this, he was elected to the patriarchal throne by the Local Council of the Russian Orthodox Church.
