Putin congratulated Lukashenka on the Independence Day of Belarus

Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated his Belarusian counterpart Alexander Lukashenko on the Independence Day of Belarus. Telegram published on the Kremlin website.
“This holiday is of particular importance not only for Belarusians, but also for Russians, since it is associated with a significant event in our common history – the liberation of Minsk from Nazi invaders,” Putin said.
The President noted that “the bonds of fraternal friendship and mutual assistance, hardened in the harsh war years,” remain a reliable basis for allied relations between Russia and Belarus. According to him, this is confirmed even today – during the period of confrontation between countries “very serious external threats and challenges.”
Putin expressed confidence that building up constructive bilateral ties in all areas and strengthening the institutions of the Union State would allow the Russian Federation and Belarus to “overcome any difficulties and defend the legitimate interests of our countries on the world stage.” In conclusion, the President of Russia wished Lukashenka health and success, and the people of Belarus – happiness and prosperity.
The Independence Day of the Republic of Belarus is annually celebrated on July 3 – on the anniversary of the liberation of Minsk by the Red Army from German troops during the Great Patriotic War in 1944. Earlier today in congratulations Lukashenka noted that this holiday is “a tribute to the generations of Belarusians” who defended the right to live in their native land and independently determine their own destiny.
