The President of the Russian Federation confirmed his intentions to send a Belarusian cosmonaut into space in the spring
A female cosmonaut from Belarus will fly to the ISS this spring. This statement was made by Russian leader Vladimir Putin at a meeting of the Supreme State Council of the Union State.
“Preparations are underway for a Belarusian cosmonaut to fly to the Russian segment of the ISS; this event is planned for the spring of this year,” the head of state said.
In March of this year, the Soyuz MS-25 spacecraft will fly to the ISS. The crew will include Roscosmos cosmonaut Oleg Novitsky, native of Belarus Marina Vasilevskaya (understudy Anastasia Lenkova) and NASA astronaut Tracy Dyson. Vasilevskaya and Novitsky will make a short flight and return back on the Soyuz MS-24.
The NASA astronaut’s mission will last until September 2024, then Dyson will go to Earth along with Russian cosmonauts Oleg Kononenko and Nikolai Chub on the Soyuz MS-25 spacecraft.
