Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the flight of a Belarusian cosmonaut to the Russian segment of the International Space Station (ISS) will take place in the spring. According to him, preparations for this flight are now underway.

“I will mention that a Belarusian cosmonaut is being trained for a flight to the Russian segment of the ISS. This event is planned for the spring of this year,” Mr. Putin said during a meeting of the Supreme Council of the Union State of Russia and Belarus taking place in St. Petersburg (quote from Interfax).

Earlier, the Roscosmos state corporation reported that Belarusian cosmonaut Marina Vasilevskaya was included in the main crew for the spring flight to the ISS; the spacecraft commander will be Russian cosmonaut Oleg Novitsky. The crew will also include NASA astronaut Tracy Dyson. As expected, Marina Vasilevskaya and Oleg Novitsky will make a short flight, after which they will return to Earth. Cosmonaut from Belarus Anastasia Lenkova was also chosen as an understudy for Marina Vasilevskaya.
