Russian President Vladimir Putin called the visit of Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov to Moscow on the eve of Victory Day a landmark event. At a meeting with his Kyrgyz counterpart, the Russian president noted that the current relations between the two states are on the rise.

“Dear Sadyr Nurgozhoevich! Dear colleagues, friends! We are very glad to see you all in Moscow, especially on the eve of Victory Day. This is a significant event that you are with us at this time. We all know and remember that 360,000 residents of Kyrgyzstan went to the front at one time and more than half – in my opinion, 134,000 – did not return. I know that you were in Rzhev together with the chairman of the State Duma of Russia, laid flowers there, paid tribute to the memory of those who died and fought on this sector of the front, ” quotes Putin’s press service of the Kremlin.

Speaking about relations between Russia and Kyrgyzstan, Putin noted that they are now on the rise. According to the President, in 2022, the growth of trade between the countries amounted to 37%

“Russia is the largest investor, and we rank first in terms of direct investment. And I am sure that this trend will only gain strength, gain momentum,” Putin said at a meeting with Zhaparov.

In turn, the President of Kyrgyzstan thanked Putin for the invitation to pay an official visit to Russia. Today’s meeting, as Japarov noted, is a good opportunity to discuss topical issues of bilateral cooperation. The Kyrgyz president expects to exchange views on the further development of the Kyrgyz-Russian strategic partnership and alliance in the interests of both states.

It follows from the Kremlin’s message that the meeting of the two leaders will discuss the current state and prospects for the development of mutually beneficial cooperation in the trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian spheres, issues of further strengthening Russian-Kyrgyz relations of strategic partnership and alliance, interaction within integration associations, as well as regional and international issues.

Tomorrow, May 9, the Victory Parade will take place on Red Square in Moscow. Putin will take part in it and make a speech. There will be no traditional reception in the Kremlin this year. Usually on Victory Day, the president met in the Kremlin with veterans of the Great Patriotic War. The last time this event was held in 2019. In 2020 and 2021. The reception was canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic, and last year it also did not take place.
