President Vladimir Putin, at a meeting with the new composition of the Public Chamber, called the problem of abortion in Russia acute. According to the head of state, this problem can be solved in two ways: banning the sale of abortion drugs or improving support for families.
“The question is what to do about it. Ban the sale of drugs that terminate pregnancy, or improve the socio-economic situation in the country, increase the level of well-being, real wages, social services, assistance to young families in purchasing housing, assistance in other areas, material assistance to young student families,” said Mr. Putin.
At the same time, the president noted that in recent years the state has “done a lot to support families with children,” and there are many areas to support motherhood.
In October, the State Duma discussed initiatives to tighten the practice of abortion: parliamentarians proposed introducing the written consent of a man for an abortion in a registered marriage, and in the case of pregnancy of a minor girl, the consent of a parent or guardian. In addition, it was proposed to limit the period for abortion from 12 to 8 weeks of pregnancy.
What they said in the Public Chamber about the ban on abortion – in the Kommersant material “Demographics are ordered to survive”.
