Putin called saving the people of the Russian Federation a priority for several generations

Strengthening the family and saving the people of Russia is the priority of the Russian authorities for generations to come. This statement was made on Tuesday, November 28, by Russian President Vladimir Putin, speaking at the plenary session of the World Russian People’s Council.
The head of state emphasized that overcoming the most difficult demographic challenges that Russia faces cannot be achieved only with the help of money—moral values are needed. According to Putin, large families should become the norm of life for all peoples of Russia.
At the same time, the president noted that the authorities’ decision to declare 2024 the Year of the Family in Russia is based on the opinion and desire of the majority of society.
Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Tatyana Golikova, who oversees the social sphere in the Cabinet of Ministers, noted that the absolute priority for the Russian Federation today is a traditional family with at least three children.
Golikova clarified that the national goal includes preserving the population, as well as the health and well-being of people.
Previously, Rosstat reported that, taking into account the results of the All-Russian Population Census, which was conducted in October – November 2021, 146.45 million people live in Russia. By January 1, 2046, the country’s population will decrease to 138.77 million people.
In order to increase the birth rate in the country, the representative of Crimea in the Federation Council Olga Kovitidi proposed introduce criminal penalties for inducing a pregnant woman to have an abortion. According to the senator, an administrative charge is too lenient a punishment for such an act.
