The head of the Magadan region, Sergei Nosov, signed a document adjusting the rules for keeping stray animals in shelters. According to the new rules, dogs that have not been found within 10 days may be euthanized if certain conditions are met.
It is possible to euthanize an animal that was never adopted from the shelter if there are signs of unbearable physical suffering, an incurable disease or the incurable consequences of a serious injury, or if there is a disease that is dangerous to people and other animals.
Another condition that allows you to euthanize a dog is the animal’s repeated manifestation of unmotivated aggression, REGNUM reports.
The authorities of Buryatia also made amendments to the law on the treatment of animals. The region now also allows the killing of sick and aggressive dogs in shelters. The head of the republic, Alexei Tsydenov, said that “we are not against dogs – we are for people.” The governor of Buryatia emphasized that “the life and health of people, especially children, are more important.”
It was previously reported that 4.6 million rubles will be spent on catching stray animals in Nizhny Novgorod in 2024. The contractor will have to catch stray animals and deliver them to the shelter, where they will be examined by veterinarians. Cats and dogs will also be vaccinated against rabies and sterilized.
In the Sverdlovsk region, six shelters for animals without owners will be built by 2026. The first will begin to be built in 2023 in Asbest. For its construction almost 50 million rubles have been allocated. It is planned to house up to 272 dogs at a time.
