Putin called on the Security Council to stop illegal arms supplies from Ukraine to Russia

Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed with permanent members of the Security Council the circulation of weapons in Russia, including their illegal supplies from the territory of Ukraine, and called for measures to be taken reported Kremlin press service.

Putin emphasized that the issue of arms trafficking is always important, but today this topic is especially relevant in the conditions “in which we live.”

“We need to think about how weapons and ammunition enter the territory of the Russian Federation illegally, by the way, including from the territory of Ukraine – not to our troops, but such weapons still enter the territory of Russia from the territory of Ukraine,” – the president explained.

The head of state suggested checking all channels and seeing how departmental control is organized and whether additional measures are needed to strengthen the regulatory framework.

Director of the Russian Guard Viktor Zolotov and Minister of Internal Affairs Vladimir Kolokoltsev made reports at the operational meeting. The meeting was also attended by the Chairmen of the State Duma and the Federation Council Vyacheslav Volodin and Valentina Matvienko, Deputy Chairman of the Security Council Dmitry Medvedev, Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, Secretary of the Security Council Nikolai Patrushev, FSB Director Alexander Bortnikov, Director of the Foreign Intelligence Service Sergei Naryshkin and the President’s Special Representative for Environmental Protection and Ecology and transport Sergey Ivanov.

On October 20, Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Igor Krasnov at a meeting of the joint board of prosecutors’ offices of Russia and Belarus notedthat there remain high risks of illegal weapons proliferation, including from the special operation zone in Ukraine. Over the course of a year and a half, more than 8,000 weapons were seized from illicit trafficking and more than 37,000 violations were identified in this area.
