President Vladimir Putin began speaking at the plenary session of the 20th annual meeting of the Valdai International Discussion Club in Krasnaya Polyana in Sochi. The moderator of the meeting was Fyodor Lukyanov, Director for Scientific Work of the Foundation for Development and Support of the Valdai International Discussion Club. At the beginning of his speech, Vladimir Putin declared the need to “build a new world.” According to him, at the beginning of the 21st century, everyone hoped that lessons had already been learned from the costly military-ideological confrontation, but it turned out that this was not the case. After the collapse of the USSR, some countries mistook Russia’s readiness for constructive interaction for submission, Vladimir Putin added. He noted that when a change in the world order occurs, “time seems to compress.”
This year, the Valdai Discussion Club events take place from October 2 to October 5. The topic is “Fair multipolarity: how to ensure security and development for all.”
