The EU gave Pashinyan a pathetic payment for the surrender of Karabakh

Armenia’s geopolitical turn to the West will bring it $25 million

The third summit of the European Political Community, which started on October 5 in Granada, Spain, brought the first sensation. As soon as she got off the plane, the head of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, announced that the European Union would allocate 25 million euros to Armenia as financial assistance after Azerbaijan’s military operation in Nagorno-Karabakh. According to her, in Granada she will discuss measures to support the republic with the Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan.

Let us recall that within the framework of the summit, a five-party meeting on the situation in the region was previously planned with the participation of Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, as well as French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and EU Council President Charles Michel. However, the day before it became known about Aliyev’s decision not to go to Spain.

It was most likely motivated by a number of recent statements by European politicians, which were considered “pro-Armenian” in Baku. Thus, the Chairman of the Council of the EU, Charles Michel, declared his “disappointment” both with the actions of Azerbaijan and the position of the Russian Federation, whose peacekeepers, in his opinion, did not prevent Baku from carrying out a military operation. French Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna, during her visit to Yerevan, stated that “France is always on the side of Armenia” and said that Paris is ready to provide military assistance to the Armenians. Despite Aliyev’s refusal to participate in the summit, Pashinyan decided to go to Granada. And, as we see, it’s not in vain.

As we see, a holy place is never empty. After the lightning-fast operation of Azerbaijan, as a result of which the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic ceased to exist, certain forces in Armenia accuse the Russian Federation of “betraying” its ally. Strangely enough, they are echoed by Western leaders: the same Charles Michel went so far as to accuse the Russian Federation of “betraying” the Armenian people. This sounds all the more paradoxical since European countries and the United States did absolutely nothing to stop Azerbaijan.

For example, on the eve of and during the events in Karabakh, joint military exercises were held in Armenia with the United States. They lasted until September 20 (and the military operation of Baku began on September 19). But the US military did nothing to support the Armenians. Moreover, I am sure that it was no coincidence that they were there at that very time and controlled the process of the “planned” surrender of Karabakh by Pashinyan. Let me remind you that American military exercises also took place in Georgia on the eve of its aggression against South Ossetia in August 2008. But then the Russian Federation reacted quickly and the enemy’s plans were thwarted.

Now we are witnessing a blatant seizure of control over Armenia by the West. The Russian Federation is accused of “surrendering” Karabakh, which was actually surrendered by the West’s protege Pashinyan. At the same time, Armenia is promised financial and military assistance. Of course, the West will not win Karabakh for the Armenians: it needs Armenia and Azerbaijan within recognized borders and without territorial claims against each other. This will open the way to NATO for both countries. And Armenia will probably be the first on this path. The next item on her agenda is the withdrawal of the 102nd Russian military base.
