Putin awarded former President of the Russian Academy of Sciences Osipov the title of Hero of Labor - Kommersant

President Vladimir Putin signed a decree conferring the title of Hero of Labor to the former president of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAN), mathematician and mechanic Yuri Osipov. The decree was published on portal legal information.

The document was signed on the eve of the 300th anniversary of the Russian Academy of Sciences. 87-year-old Yuri Osipov received the title of Hero of Labor “for special services to the state and outstanding contribution to the development of science.”

Yuri Osipov was born on July 7, 1936 in Tobolsk, graduated from the Ural State University. He worked as an engineer at a defense enterprise in Sverdlovsk, and then at scientific institutes. He was elected academician of the USSR Academy of Sciences in 1987. Since 1989 he has been working at Moscow State University named after M.V. Lomonosov. Since 1990 – Head of the Department of Optimal Control, Faculty of Computational Mathematics and Cybernetics.

Yuri Osipov was President of the RAS from December 17, 1991 to May 29, 2013. Until 2013, he was also a member of the Russian Security Council. Most of the mathematician’s research is devoted to control theory, differential equations and their applications.
