Putin at the G20 proposed a plan to exit the era of global turmoil

The reason for the extraordinary summit of G20 leaders is not exactly urgent. India’s G20 presidency is coming to an end. Prime Minister Modi gathered his colleagues to take stock, discuss the problems of the global economy, the climate agenda, the risks of the thoughtless use of artificial intelligence and recall the challenges to global security.

“We are on the same planet, we have a common family and destiny. We need to avoid conflicts,” Modi urged.

Although Modi did not focus on the Ukrainian crisis, the Russian President, paying tribute to “his Indian colleagues for their productive work during their chairmanship,” decided to start with the Ukrainian agenda. Processes of radical transformation are taking place in the world, Putin stated.

— New powerful centers of global economic development are emerging and strengthening. A significant share of global investment, trade and consumer activity is shifting to Asian, African and Latin American regions, where most of the planet’s population lives, the Russian leader listed the processes taking place in the brave new world.

At the same time, turbulence in the markets is increasing, Putin noted. Chronic problems in the international financial sector, energy and food security are worsening.

“By the way, Russia fulfills all its obligations in this area, remains one of the largest food exporters,” Putin recalled with satisfaction in his voice and informed everyone who dreamed of the collapse of the Russian economy: “And today, I want to inform you, to Africa, for example.” , the first ships with Russian grain have been sent to countries in need. Putin noted: the colossal stress that the world economy is experiencing is a direct consequence of the ill-conceived macroeconomic policies of some states. The President did not directly specify who these “some” are. But he named the currencies that influenced today’s economic “swing”:

But even a broken system can be fixed, and the Russian leader knows how. Firstly, we must work on the principles of mutual respect and in accordance with the norms of the UN Charter. Secondly, the WTO needs to be restarted in full, including its arbitration function. The third point voiced by Putin is that it is necessary to increase the role of developing economies in international financial institutions, including the IMF and the World Bank.
