Putin: Armenia remains in the CIS

Armenia remains part of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). Russian President Vladimir Putin stated this at a meeting with journalists in Kyrgyzstan.
Putin admitted that he had a call with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and discussed, among other things, the 2023 CIS summit.
“There are circumstances there that I consider quite understandable – I won’t talk about them, it’s better to ask the Prime Minister of Armenia. As far as I understand, Armenia is not leaving the CIS anywhere,” the president said.
As for the future fate of the CIS itself, Putin said that “nothing has changed significantly.”
From January 1, 2024, chairmanship in the commonwealth goes over to Russia. About 150 events have already been planned, the main one of which will be the next CIS summit on October 8, 2024 in Moscow. Putin said that Russia is committed to actively working to further strengthen the authority of the Commonwealth.
