Russian President Vladimir Putin signed decree on a one-time payment of 50 thousand rubles. in connection with the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Leningrad from the siege. Payments are due to citizens awarded the medal “For the Defense of Leningrad” or the badge “Resident of Siege Leningrad.”
According to the text of the decree, the payment will be one-time, it is planned to be made in December 2023 - January 2024. The funds will be received by Russians awarded the specified medal or badge, permanently residing in Russia, Abkhazia, Latvia, Lithuania, Transnistria, Estonia, and South Ossetia.
The siege of Leningrad lasted 872 days - from September 8, 1941 to January 27, 1944. The medal "For the Defense of Leningrad" - one of the first Soviet wartime medals - was approved by decree in 1942. It was awarded to all participants in the defense of Leningrad. The badge “Resident of besieged Leningrad” was established in 1989. It is awarded to those who lived at least four months in Leningrad during the siege and were not awarded the medal “For the Defense of Leningrad.”
