Putin appointed prosecutor of the newly formed Moscow Military District

Russian President Vladimir Putin appointed Andrei Popov as prosecutor of the Moscow Military District. This district was created on February 26 by presidential decree, which came into force on March 1.
“To appoint Lieutenant General of Justice Andrei Valerievich Popov as a military prosecutor of the Moscow Military District for a five-year term, releasing him from his post,” says the decree published on website legal information.
Mr. Popov has been the military prosecutor of the Central Military District since 2022, which includes three federal districts and 29 constituent entities of Russia, as well as the 201st military base in Tajikistan. During his career, Andrei Popov worked in the military prosecutor’s office of the Trans-Baikal Territory, in the North Caucasus, in the Baltic and Northern fleets.
Previously Vladimir Putin divided Western Military District into Moscow and Leningrad. Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov reportedthat additional weapons will be deployed in the new districts in response to Finland and Sweden joining NATO. According to Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu, the creation of new districts allowed “to significantly increase the efficiency of command and control of troops and forces.”
