Putin allowed transport security officers to shoot down drones

Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law that gives transport security officers the right to shoot down unmanned vehicles. The new law clarifies the definition of “unmanned vehicles” to include unmanned aircraft, underwater and surface vessels, driverless vehicles and other automated unmanned systems.
The legislation allows transport security units to suppress unmanned vehicles in order to protect against illegal interference in transport infrastructure facilities located in security zones. In particular, the legislation allows the destruction of unmanned aerial vehicles. The procedure for making decisions on suppressing drones will be developed by the Ministry of Transport together with the FSB.
According to the new law, transport infrastructure entities are required to provide the FSB free of charge with buildings, structures, office and utility premises, as well as equipment, means and communication services to perform tasks on various modes of transport. The operational bodies of the unified air traffic management system now receive the authority to register violations of the use of the airspace of the Russian Federation in accordance with the procedure established by the Ministry of Transport.
