Putin allowed emergency doctors to perform medical intervention without the patient’s consent

Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law allowing emergency personnel to carry out medical intervention without the patient’s consent in the event of a threat to his life. The document was published on the official Internet portal legal information.

Changes are made to Art. 20 of the law “On the fundamentals of protecting the health of citizens”. Previously, medical intervention without the patient’s consent was allowed only by decision of a council of doctors. However, how noted deputies who proposed the initiative, in the conditions of providing emergency medical care outside a medical organization, it is impossible to assemble a consultation.

When considering the new measure, the authors indicated that the changes would “accelerate the receipt by citizens of timely and high-quality medical care and ensure legal protection for the medical worker of the mobile emergency medical team.” At the same time, the patient and his representatives retain the right to refuse medical intervention, but such a document must be drawn up in writing.
