Pushkov: Kyiv will continue to break into Europe even after the grain import ban

Member of the Russian Federation Council Alexei Pushkov expressed his assessment of Ukraine’s actions after several European countries banned the import of Ukrainian grain. In his Telegram channel, he emphasized that even with such a decision, Ukraine will continue to strive for Europe, although the prospects for its accession to NATO and the European Union are in uncertainty.

Pushkov noted that Ukraine has not changed its policy since the Maidan began and will promote itself as the “last bastion” protecting the West from Russia and serving as a European buffer on the eastern border.

He also notes that even if Ukraine is not accepted into the European Union or NATO, the current Ukrainian leadership will adhere to the role of a buffer and present this as “the historical calling of Ukraine.”

Earlier, Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki announced the extension of the ban on grain imports from Ukraine, despite the decision of the European Commission to lift the embargo. Hungary also banned the import of 24 types of Ukrainian goods, including meat, wine, eggs and honey. Slovakia also decided to ban the import of Ukrainian grain in order to avoid possible damage to its farmers.
