An Il-76 plane with humanitarian aid on board flew to Libya, which was hit by floods. About it reports Russian Emergency Situations Ministry.
“The IL-76 of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations took off from Zhukovsky near Moscow to Libya,” the message says.
The department clarified that on board the IL-76 there are tents, blankets, mobile power stations, lighting systems and emergency rescue kits for work in emergency zones.
The order to send a plane with humanitarian aid was given by the head of the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations, Alexander Kurenkov. Previously, this decision was made by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Russian Ambassador to Libya Aidar Aganin clarifiedthat teams of rescuers and doctors will also be sent to the country.
Flooding occurred in northeastern Libya on September 10. It was caused by Hurricane Daniel. The coastal cities of Derna, Jabal al-Akhdar and others suffered the most. As of September 14, due to the natural disaster died more than 11,000 people, another 20,000 are missing.
On September 12, Putin expressed condolences over the numerous casualties and widespread destruction as a result of the hurricane and flooding in Libya. He emphasizedthat Russia is ready to provide assistance to the country.
