Punishment for cryptocurrency mining – Moskovskaya Pravda

The Federal Security Service of Russia for the city of Moscow and the Moscow Region stopped the illegal activities of a Russian citizen Garipov V.T., who carried out unauthorized interference in the activities of the critical information infrastructure facility of Cryogenmash PJSC.
In the course of operational activities and investigative actions, it was established that Garipov V.T., being the system administrator of the said enterprise, illegally copied the data of employees’ accounts. After the dismissal, the attacker, using the information obtained, installed malicious software on the PC of Cryogenmash PJSC and tried to organize a criminal cryptocurrency mining scheme, which was stopped by the employees of the Federal Security Service of Russia in the city of Moscow and the Moscow Region.
The verdict of the Balashikha City Court of the Moscow Region Garipov V.T. found guilty of committing a crime under Part 1 of Article 274.1 of the Criminal Code of Russia “Illegal influence on the critical information infrastructure of the Russian Federation”, with the imposition of a sentence of imprisonment for a term of 2 years and a fine in the amount of five hundred thousand rubles to the state. In view of the positive characteristics of the personality and taking into account the unfavorable family circumstances, the court decided to impose a suspended sentence.
The verdict came into force.
