Public transport in Russia has become less frequent

The rating of Russian cities on the quality of buses and trams has been published

Experts in the course of the study decided to create an ideal transport city, based on the experience of the world’s megacities. Alas, not a single large settlement in Russia falls short of worthy criteria. Yuri Surnin, an analyst at a large research company in the field of engineering, the author of the study, told about this.

Out of 1118 Russian cities, experts studied public transport in 84 largest cities. The analysis is being carried out for the third year in a row. Moscow and St. Petersburg were not included in the team standings – as clear leaders due to financial capabilities and human resources. However, Russian capitals received the same ratings as everyone else.

According to the results of the rating, Moscow (out of standings) deserved 83 points out of a hundred. In second place is Perm (73). Novokuznetsk took bronze (72.8 points). Yekaterinburg took the fourth place (72.7), St. Petersburg (also out of standings) – the fifth (72.3).

Perm and Novokuznetsk have carried out comprehensive reforms and have approached the modernization of the public transport network as a whole, experts say. But Yekaterinburg began to roll back, as well as Rostov-on-Don, Volgograd, Yoshkar-Ola, scientists say, since these cities are waiting for a concession (joint development of transport with investors), but so far unsuccessfully. As for Volgograd, now the streets are mostly driven by minibuses, and the expensive underground rail system is idle, experts noted shortcomings.

The priority in compiling the rating was taking into account routes in the evening (with regular fares and a traffic schedule every 20 minutes) – for many citizens this is very important. Another important indicator is the availability of dedicated lanes for buses and trolleybuses.

Tver dropped out of last year’s “ten” – the city could not maintain the level of last year. The obvious outsider is Ivanovo, which has fallen from 30th to 50th place in terms of aggregate indicators. Voronezh, which has been promising its residents the introduction of electric buses for a long time, is in 46th place.

Penza, Astrakhan and Orenburg close the rating, which did not surprise the experts at all.

“Unfortunately, in many Russian cities at the bottom of the rating, the intervals of public transport and the travel time of the route have increased – from 20 minutes, relatively speaking, to 22-23,” Yuri Surnin comments. “At the same time, the number of rolling stock and the actual routes. Among the 200 “left” routes from Russia over the past year, every fifth is a trolley bus. Trams have remained approximately at the same level. “

There is not a single city that would be ideal, the transport workers sum up. The average fare is growing almost everywhere, despite the growth in income (or rather, their absence) of residents. In Russian cities, with rare exceptions, there is a “stable rollback to nowhere,” economists say.
