Protests against partial mobilization took place in Russia

Actions against partial mobilization, which was announced today by Russian President Vladimir Putin, took place in 38 Russian cities. The representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, Irina Volk, called the actions unauthorized. According to her, they gathered “an extremely small number of participants.”

According to the OVD-Info media project (recognized as a foreign agent in Russia), 1,251 people were detained in 37 cities, including 490 in St. Petersburg, 468 in Moscow, and 40 in Yekaterinburg.

In Moscow, the action took place on the Arbat and on Pushkinskaya Square. The main detentions, as correspondents of Kommersant reported, took place at the beginning of the pedestrian part of Arbat Street. In St. Petersburg, the action took place near St. Isaac’s Cathedral, and then grew into a procession.

As a result of today’s actions, one criminal case is known. According to the Yekaterinburg edition “Evening Gazette”a protester was detained on suspicion of attacking government officials (Article 318 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).

“In a number of regions, attempts were made to hold unauthorized actions, which brought together an extremely small number of participants. All of them were stopped, and the persons who committed offenses were detained and taken to the territorial police units for investigation and prosecution,” said Irina Volk (quoted by Interfax).

This morning, September 21, Vladimir Putin signed a decree on partial mobilization. As Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu later explained, 300,000 people will be mobilized from the reserve and reserves. Mobilization instructions, he said, will come to those who have served in the armed forces and have combat experience.
