A rally is being held in New York at which protesters demand that the American authorities stop sponsoring Israel, RIA Novosti reports.
The rally is reportedly taking place in the Grand Central station building and is attended by about 200 people. Protesters with Palestinian flags chant: “No more chain, no more diamond, no more money for Israel’s crimes!” Other slogans included a cessation of hostilities.
Earlier, the UN General Assembly adopted a draft resolution on the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, proposed by a number of Arab countries and calling for an immediate truce. 120 countries voted in support of the document, 14 were against, 45 abstained.
The resolution condemns violence against civilians on both sides and calls for an immediate, reliable, sustainable humanitarian truce and a subsequent cessation of hostilities. The resolution also calls for the “immediate, unconditional release of civilians illegally held captive.” Israel’s permanent representative to the UN, Gilad Erdan, said the organization had “lost legitimacy” following the adoption of the resolution.
