The launch of the production of Baikal light aircraft is scheduled for 2024 in Komsomolsk-on-Amur. Information about this is contained in the presentation in the pavilion of the Khabarovsk Territory at the Eastern Economic Forum, informs TASS.

As the agency writes, one of the slides of the presentation says that the production of Baikal will begin in 2024, they plan to assemble 20 aircraft in a year.

According to the instructions of Russian President Vladimir Putin, by 2025 the production of light-engine multi-purpose aircraft should reach the level of 30 units per year. Baikal has a wide range of applications. The aircraft is suitable for transporting goods, people who need medical assistance, as well as for rescue work.

The Baikal prototype has already been released; at the end of January 2022, it made its first flight in Yekaterinburg. The new device should become a replacement for the Soviet-designed An-2 “corncob”.

The plane is designed for 9-12 seats, Mikhail Degtyarev, the governor of the Khabarovsk Territory, noted at a meeting with Putin in April. At the same time, the President of the Russian Federation said that providing Baikal with a domestic engine was the immediate task. As it became known in May, the first sample of the engine is planned to be assembled by December 2022.
