The deployment of 5G communication networks in Russia is planned from 2024, 5G will be launched at frequencies of 4.4-4.9 GHz. About this Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko declared Interfax on the sidelines of the Eastern Economic Forum 2022.

“Frequencies have already been determined - these are 4.4-4.9 GHz as a priority. And we expect the construction of networks on our Russian equipment to begin as early as 2024,” he said.

Chernyshenko stressed that the equipment will be developed entirely on the basis of "domestic solutions". Rostec is responsible for the construction of networks, the vice-premier specified.

In early July, the Russian Ministry of Digital Development proposed to transfer frequencies in the range of 24.25-27.5 GHz in favor of 5G. It was noted that the 4 GHz bands could also be transferred to civil use. The department noted that the initiative will help operators in the development of 5G in Russia.

After the start of Russia's special operation in Ukraine, the development of 5G communications in the country was under threat. The main suppliers of telecom equipment Nokia and Ericsson after the imposition of sanctions against Russia. In June, Rostec proposed a new version of the roadmap for the development of 5G networks, in which the focus is not on 5G, but on the previous generation of communications - LTE.

Also in July, Kommersant informedthat Skoltech and the Radio Research Institute are preparing a project to develop communication equipment for the sixth generation of 6G. According to the newspaper, specialists are asking for more than 30 billion rubles to develop the initiative.
