Producer Razin threatened action because of the songs “Tender May” in the series “The Boy’s Word”

Producer Andrei Razin wrote a statement addressed to the Moscow prosecutor demanding that a criminal case be opened against the administrator of the group “Tender May” Arkady Kudryashov, the widow of the lead singer of the group Yuri Shatunov Svetlana and Lydia Grigoryan. According to him, by concluding a licensing agreement with the producers of the series “The Boy’s Word” for the right to use the tracks and phonograms of “Tender May” in the film, they committed fraud on an especially large scale, stealing “the intellectual property that belonged to him.”
In a video message that Mr. Razin posted on his YouTube channelhe clarified that the agreement that caused his indignation was concluded on April 10, 2023 by Arkady Kudryashov on behalf of Svetlana Shatunova.
“Bypassing me and the copyright holders, such respectable people as Fedya Bondarchuk and many other producers take and draw up such documents and thereby expose a beautiful picture, in my opinion, to attack. And now, of course, strikes will fly, and this film will not be seen by millions of people. Why couldn’t you contact the copyright holders?” – the producer complained.
He emphasized several times that he is the sole copyright holder of the songs, phonograms, tracks of “Tender May” and the group itself, citing the decision of the court on intellectual rights at the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation. The decision recognizing all these rights for Mr. Razin was made in June 2021, and, according to him, “nobody canceled it.”
The comments to the same video on Instagram (owned by Meta, which is recognized as extremist and banned in the Russian Federation) also emphasize that the rights to the songs of “Tender May” are registered in the Library of Congress of the United States specifically to Andrei Razin, as the author and copyright holder, and therefore the film is awaiting “complete blocking” “all over the world”, and “in Russia – criminal liability.”
Andrei Razin asks the Moscow prosecutor’s office not only to initiate a criminal case and “punish the perpetrators” under the article of fraud, but also to compensate for damages in the amount of 15 million rubles paid by the producers of the film to the widow of Yuri Shatunov.
“They took fake documents and used these documents to pay producer money to the bandits,” the producer and ex-politician (twice, in 1997 and 2007, Andrei Razin was elected to the Stavropol Regional Duma) is indignant on his YouTube channel.
By “false documents,” Mr. Razin apparently means court decisions in the Stavropol Territory, held in June and then in November 2022: then the producer could not prove that the songwriter of the group, Sergei Kuznetsov, transferred the rights to his works to him.
