Prizes for steps: Russians are invited to take part in the “Man Walking” sports challenge

“Man Walking” is an all-Russian competition in background walking, which has been held by the all-Russian public organization “League of the Health of the Nation” with the support of the Ministry of Sports as part of the federal project “Sport is the norm of life” for several years. On September 10, the first stage of the 2022 competition starts.

“Movement is life, and life is movement.” This philosophical statement of Aristotle – at least the first part of it – is not tired of repeating modern doctors. After all, it has long been no secret that physical inactivity is the cause of many diseases. But not many people manage to force themselves to go in for sports or even just do gymnastics in the morning. And not everyone manages to walk the 10,000 steps recommended by doctors every day. But walking is a wonderful and, importantly, safe way of physical activity, especially for people of age. But daily walks also require motivation. It was created by the organizers of the “Man Walking” project, adding a competitive element to ordinary walking.

The essence of the challenge is simple: the teams registered in the project compete to see which one will take the most steps during the crediting period.

Competitions are held in several competitive programs: among corporate, municipal, student and family teams, teams of pensioners, and teams of informal associations of citizens (healthy lifestyle groups).

To participate, you need to assemble a team from September 10 to October 10, register for free in the Walking Man mobile application, which provides real-time step counting for each team member and generates team ratings, and select a competitive category.

Moreover, if there should be at least 20 people in corporate teams, then a family team can also be registered as part of three participants.

The main stage of the competition will be held from October 15 to November 15. During this period, the team should try to walk as many steps as possible (but no more than 25,000 steps per day per member). The winner will be the team with the highest arithmetic mean of the number of steps of all team members for all days of the competition.

The final result is determined as the sum of the daily arithmetic mean values ​​of the team’s steps for all days of the main stage of the competition. That is, to obtain the result, the sum of all the steps taken by the team will be divided by the number of its participants. This scoring method gives all teams the same chance of winning. And counting steps using a mobile application removes all restrictions on territorial and temporal grounds – you can walk anywhere and anytime within the period of the main stage.

By the way, all participants in the competition will be able to receive advice from experts from the League of Health of the Nation through a mobile application on organizing an optimal motor, food and drinking regimen, as well as on maintaining a healthy lifestyle in general.

And an additional motivation for the participants may be that within the framework of the project’s affiliate program it will be possible to “convert” their steps into bonuses and discounts on services, products and goods for a healthy lifestyle.

In addition, the organizers of the competition are preparing several additional prizes – for personal achievements in walking, for the will to win, for sports courage, for the best story or post about walking, for the best photo dedicated to walking, and others.

The summing up and the awarding ceremony will take place until November 31.

The 2020 and 2021 Man Walking competitions are recognized as the most popular and safest in Russia. In 2021, more than 150,000 people registered in the Man Walking mobile application, 2,285 teams from 700 cities in 84 constituent entities of the Russian Federation took part in the competition.
