Moldovan Prime Minister Recean urged to limit the movement of two Russian diplomats after Minnikhanov’s visit
Moldovan Prime Minister Dorin Recean called for restrictions on the movement of two employees of the Russian embassy. The head of government made the corresponding statement after the incident with the denial of entry into the country to the head of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov. At a government meeting, Recean expressed satisfaction with the work of his deputy, Foreign Minister Nicolae Popescu, as well as Moldovan law enforcement officers who denied entry to Russian officials.
“Two representatives of the Russian embassy must have their accreditation at the airport revoked,” said the Deputy Prime Minister [Попеску]see if one of them deserves deportation.”
Government spokesman Daniel Voda explained that employees of the Russian embassy would be deprived of special passes to the Chisinau airport for “improper behavior” during the landing of the plane with the Russian delegation.
Rechan also criticized the deputies of the Moldovan parliament, as well as the People’s Assembly of the Gagauz autonomy for inviting the Russians. According to him, four citizens of the Russian Federation “tried to come to Chisinau to interfere in the elections in Gagauzia.”
Rechan’s words were criticized by the head of Gagauzia, Irina Vlakh: “We have been cooperating with Tatarstan for 25 years – this region has supported us a lot.”
Minnikhanov was denied entry to Moldova on Monday – the country’s authorities declared him an undesirable person in the republic. The head of Tatarstan flew to Chisinau at the invitation of representatives of the parliament and the Gagauz autonomy, who recently visited the republic and outlined a large program of joint activities with Tatar partners.
