Medvedev threatened to supply weapons to the DPRK in case of assistance to Ukraine from South Korea

North Korea may receive modern Russian weapons in the case of military assistance from South Korea to Kyiv. This statement was made by Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev.

“I wonder what the people of this country will say [Южной Кореи]when will they see the latest samples of Russian weapons from their closest neighbors – our partners from the DPRK? What is called, Quid pro quo…”, — wrote politician in his Telegram channel.

In this way, Medvedev commented on the words of South Korean President Yun Seok Yol, who allowed the supply of weapons to Ukraine in the event of a threat to the civilian population of the country. “If a situation arises that the international community cannot tolerate, for example in the event of large-scale attacks on civilians <...>then it will be difficult for us to insist only on humanitarian or financial assistance [Киеву]”, — declared he is in an interview with Reuters.

The agency noted that for the first time since the outbreak of hostilities in Ukraine, Seoul allowed the supply of weapons to Ukraine. Now South Korea is sending humanitarian aid and military supplies to Kyiv, in particular, helmets and bulletproof vests.

At the same time, in March, Reuters reportedthat in 2022 the South Korean authorities approved export licenses for the supply of Krab howitzers with South Korean components to Poland. Thus, for the first time, Seoul officially agreed to at least indirectly supply weapons components to Kyiv, the agency concluded.
