The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry condemned the meeting between President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko and Acting Head of the Donetsk People’s Republic Denis Pushilin and decided to recall the ambassador from Minsk. About it said in the statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine condemns Alexander Lukashenko’s meeting on April 18 in Minsk with Denis Pushilin as an attempt to legitimize this representative of the Russian administration in Donetsk. <…> In this regard, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry decided to call the Ambassador of Ukraine to the Republic of Belarus Igor Kizim for consultations,” the statement said.
The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry also pointed out that Pushilin “is hiding from the Ukrainian investigation for committing serious crimes.” In this regard, Lukashenka’s meeting with the acting head of the DPR in Ukraine was perceived as a “flagrant unfriendly act” on the part of Belarus.
Lukashenka and Pushilin met in Minsk the day before, April 18. During this meeting, the President of Belarus promised to assist in the restoration of the DNR. In March, in an interview with Belarus 1 TV channel, Pushilin said that the DPR authorities were considering options for attracting investment to the region, including from Belarus. The acting head of the DPR noted that he sees prospects in the DPR for both Russian and Belarusian businesses.
Pushilin was put on the wanted list by the SBU in June 2014 under the article on committing actions with the aim of forcibly changing or overthrowing the constitutional order or seizing state power (Article 109 part 1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
