Priest Markish explained whether it is possible to make love during Lent

Most religious people know that Lent comes with restrictions on carnal intimacy. We are talking about relations between spouses – extramarital sex by the Orthodox faith is not allowed at all. However, not every marriage is in agreement on this issue. What if one of the spouses is against abstinence?
Hieromonk Macarius Markish explained at a conference at the MK press center: “In the case of food, everything is simpler: they can eat different things while sitting at the same table. Suppose the wife herself eats potatoes, and the husband fries a steak. However, for intimacy, the situation is fundamentally different, it will not work out that everyone is on their own.
The apostle Paul says: “Do not deviate from one another, except by agreement.” This is strictly an individual choice.
For some marriages, it is even beneficial to pause close relationships for 7 weeks. For some marriage, it will be destructive and will not lead to anything good. Advice one: confess to a good priest and tell about your situation. And remember: no one but you can go behind the closed door of the matrimonial bedroom.
