Already on January 27 and 28, Chelyabinsk will again become the capital of basketball. The best sportsmen will come together to take part in the Super Cup, and novice talents will try to prove themselves in the qualifications of the Russian Championship.

The Super Cup will mark the start of a new 3×3 basketball season in Russia, which will bring together the elite of Russian 3×3 basketball on one site. Two women’s and four men’s teams will take part in the competition. In the women’s part of the tournament, the winner of the Winline Championship of Russia 3×3 and the winner of the Winline Cup of Russia 3×3 – “COP-Petersburg” and “Samara” will play among themselves.

Four squads from the Chelyabinsk region will take part in the first stage of the Russian Championship. These are the men’s teams Uralets (Zlatoust), Kurchatov (Chelyabinsk) and OSK-MMK (Magnitogorsk), as well as the women’s Pozitiv (Chelyabinsk).

Why was Chelyabinsk chosen to host the competition? The reason lies in the sensational finals of the Russian Championship last season in 3×3 basketball. After a truly grandiose event, basketball in Chelyabinsk began to develop even more rapidly.

The final matches were held in May 2022 at the Yunost Sports Palace. More than 5,000 basketball fans gathered in the stands. In total, 10,000 people attended the competition. There was also an online broadcast, which also broke records – more than 500,000 spectators did not come off, rooting for athletes from different parts of the region and the country.

The President of the Russian Basketball Federation Andrey Kirilenko, in his address to the Governor of the Chelyabinsk region Alexei Teksler, noted the level of the competition:

“The Russian Basketball Federation expresses its gratitude for ensuring that the Final of the Russian Basketball 3×3 Championship is held at the highest level, and also notes with pleasure the active development of 3×3 basketball in the Chelyabinsk region.”

Today in the Chelyabinsk region there are 10,500 basketball players participating in Federation competitions, more than 1,200 teams, 13 professional clubs (including three Major League teams), student sports – three leagues, amateur sports – more than 120 teams, four divisions.
