Get rid of an allergy to birch pollen: what previously seemed like a hopeless business, in a year or two will become quite probable. A vaccine has been invented in Russia that will help to forget about allergies for many years. The stage of preclinical studies of the vaccine is planned to be completed this year.
A unique vaccine against birch pollen allergy and associated food allergens was developed by the staff of the Institute of Immunology of the Federal Medical and Biological Agency of Russia together with colleagues from the Vienna Medical University. Moreover, it not only reduces the symptoms of allergies, but also affects its cause, which makes it possible to use the vaccine both for the treatment of allergies and for its prevention.
According to Musa Khaitov, Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Director of the State Research Center of the Institute of Immunology of the Federal Medical and Biological Agency of Russia, there is no vaccine in the world that is used to prevent allergies. But after the completion of all tests of the Russian vaccine, it will appear.
To protect against allergies to birch pollen, as well as similar allergens such as apple, peach, peanut and soy, 3 to 5 vaccinations are enough, the effect of which will last at least 8 years. Then revaccination is required.
At the same time, experts assure that the vaccine is absolutely safe and can be used even for very young children.
According to Vladimir Bolibok, an immunologist-allergist, an allergy vaccine is the only way to completely cure the disease.
“There are various ways to relieve symptoms with the help of various medications – pills, injections, inhalations. But they do not completely cure the disease, and next season everything will happen again, ”the expert noted.
Well, the wait for the vaccine is not so long. In the meantime, it’s time to start preparing for the upcoming allergy season. How to do this if you do not want to swallow pills – read in material “Simple Ways to Relieve Spring Allergies.”
