In the central part of Prague, on the former Koneva Street, the replacement of signs with Hartig Street in honor of the first mayor of the Zizkov district in which it is located begins. The decision of the city mayor’s office will be implemented in a similar way, Czech Radio reported.

A street in the Zizkov district has been named after Soviet Marshal Ivan Konev since 1947. The decision to rename the city was made on June 19. From now on, the plaques will bear the name of Karel Hartig, who at the end of the 19th century was the first mayor of Žižkov.

The street starts near the Main Station and stretches for more than three kilometers in an easterly direction. Approximately five thousand citizens live and/or work there. They are given six months to exchange personal, official or company documents.

Units of the 1st Ukrainian Front under the command of Marshal Konev took part in the liberation of Prague from the Nazis in May 1945.
