A court in Syktyvkar took into custody the head of the administration of the city of Pechora in the Komi Republic, Valery Serov, who was detained the day before on suspicion of corruption. About it reported press service of the Syktyvkar City Court.

The court detained the head of the Pechora municipal district for two months, until November 29. Serov is accused of committing a crime under Part 6 of Art. 290 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (receiving a bribe on an especially large scale).

Earlier, the press service of the Investigative Committee reported that Serov’s former first deputy, Andrei Kanishchev, was also involved in this case. According to the investigation, as clarified in court, Serov, together “with another person,” received a bribe in the amount of 4,000,000 rubles from an individual entrepreneur. The businessman donated the money, among other things, for the opportunity to conclude a contract for repairs, landscaping, and arrangement of facilities and public spaces in the city.

The press service of the court emphasized that any other preventive measure “cannot be a reliable guarantee of the law-abiding and proper behavior of the accused.” The resolution did not enter into legal force. TASS, citing the defendant’s lawyer Anton Kanev, reports that the defense and the official insisted on house arrest.

Detention of Serov happened September 30, when he planned to go to the special operation zone. The official said on his Telegram channel that he had signed a contract, and the head of the republic supported his decision to go to the combat zone. The mayor was also given leave for six months.
