Popova: the epidemiological situation with measles is getting worse, the infection was recorded in 44 regions of Russia
The epidemiological situation with measles in Russia is expected to become more complicated, measles has been recorded in 44 regions, the infection is limited to local foci that can be quickly stopped. There is no need for any restrictive systemic measures in the country, said Anna Popova, head of Rospotrebnadzor.
According to the head of the department, where local measures are needed, they are taken quite painlessly and calmly. Popova noted that all response measures are known and “have been well written for a long time.”
It is clarified that the first thing that cannot be abandoned is the immunization of contacts in the outbreak. At the moment, clean-up immunization is taking place, today more than 30% of those who were scheduled for clean-up immunization have been vaccinated, the chief sanitary doctor emphasized. She pointed out that measles is a well-known disease, well studied and well prevented by the domestic vaccine.
At the same time, Popova stressed that in Russia three regions had not coped with the very initial manifestations of the disease. As specified, this is mainly due to imports from friendly countries, which also have problems with measles.
Among one of these three regions, she named Dagestan. The Republic is largely a subject with a large number of rural population, with a population living remotely, where it is not always possible to make a diagnosis in a timely manner and people do not always seek medical help, Popova added.
