The UN General Assembly is more of a political body and does not have the authority to create a “special tribunal” for Russia, said Dmitry Polyansky, First Deputy Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the UN
Earlier, First Deputy Foreign Minister of Ukraine Emine Dzhaparova told the UN about Kyiv’s plans to prepare and submit for consideration in the General Assembly a resolution on the creation of a “special tribunal” against the Russian Federation.
In an interview with RT, Polyansky said that he considers such initiatives legally null and void.
“This is a popular idea in the West, it is exploited for populist and political purposes, but I don’t see any practical basis here, except to make serious people laugh,” the diplomat said.
Earlier, Russia’s Permanent Representative to the UN Vasily Nebenzya said that Russia considers the idea of a “tribunal” against Russia ridiculous. The UN stated that they are not involved in the development of Ukrainian resolutions on the “tribunal”.
