Polyansky: It is impossible to change Russia’s status in the UN Security Council without splitting the organization

Russia’s first deputy permanent representative to the UN, Dmitry Polyansky, said in an interview with TASS before the high-level week of the UN General Assembly that changing Russia’s status in the UN Security Council is impossible without splitting the world organization, and even the United States is not ready to take such a step. He commented on calls to limit Russia’s rights as a permanent member of the Security Council.
Polyansky noted that the Americans from time to time try to create the impression that they are actively advocating reform, and Russia is supposedly against it. They assume that by their actions they can influence Russia’s status in the Security Council and in the UN as a whole. However, according to him, this is absolutely impossible without destroying the foundations of the organization and creating an actual split. Nobody is ready to take such a step, including the United States.
