Polish carriers are holding protests on the border with Ukraine due to competition with Ukrainian colleagues who offer their services at lower prices. According to the Politico newspaper, Poles complain that Ukrainian carriers are engaged in transportation both within Poland and abroad.
One of the protest organizers, Jacek Sokula, said his company in eastern Poland was forced to cut its driver workforce by 40% due to Ukrainian competitors offering lower prices. The president of the Polish industry organization Transport i Logistyka Polska, Maciej Wronski, emphasized that the protests began spontaneously due to dissatisfaction with the situation.
Polish carriers are blocking automobile checkpoints on the border with Ukraine – in Khrebenny, Dorohusk and Korchevo. They demand the introduction of commercial permits for Ukrainian carriers and limiting their number. The protest is expected to last until January 3.
