Law enforcement agencies came to the Yekaterinburg office of Memorial (a foreign agent, the federal organization was liquidated by the Supreme Court), as well as to its head, Alexei Mosin. According to Kommersant’s and RIA Novosti’s sources in law enforcement agencies, the check is being carried out because of materials on the organization’s website, in which the police saw discrediting the army.
How told “Kommersant” source, the Ural “Memorial” is also checked under Art. 284.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (carrying out activities of a foreign or international undesirable NGO). According to the source, the verification is due to the fact that Alexei Mosin allegedly brought €8.5 thousand in cash from abroad in March, which could have been received from the American NED fund.
In June 2022, in the office of the Ural “Memorial” passed searches. The reason for the check was an anonymous denunciation about the distribution of extremist literature by the office. As a result, equipment and 40 books were confiscated.
In March, Memorial’s Moscow office was searched at the premises of the organization’s lawyers and historians under an article about the rehabilitation of Nazism. In addition, a criminal case was opened for discrediting the army against Oleg Orlov, co-chairman of Memorial.
