The enterprising swindler “earned” more than 24 million rubles by deceiving citizens who used his “services” to buy or sell a car. This was reported in the press service of the Internal Affairs Directorate for the North-Western Administrative District of Moscow.
The fraudster posted an ad on the Internet that provides services for buying foreign cars in Kazakhstan and driving them to Russia. Several people were seduced by the opportunity to buy a decent car for relatively little money, for which they paid the price, being left without money and without a car. So, one of the victims gave the swindler 1.5 million rubles to buy a Mitsubishi L200 pickup truck, but after a month, during which the scammer promised to drive the car, he simply stopped communicating.
The fraudster promised to help another victim with the sale of a car worth about 4.2 million rubles. As it turned out later, the swindler sold the car under forged documents, and, of course, appropriated the money.
“Six citizens turned to the police with statements about fraud. The total material damage amounted to more than 24 million rubles, ”said Vladimir Vasenin, head of the Information and Public Relations Department of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia for the city of Moscow.
In the course of operational-search activities, it turned out that the 36-year-old native of the near abroad, suspected of fraud, is in the Nizhny Novgorod region. He was arrested and taken into custody. However, no money was found on the man.
“The investigator of the SO MIA of Russia for the Strogino district initiated 6 criminal cases on the grounds of a crime under part 4 of article 159 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation “Fraud”, which are combined into one proceeding,” the press service of the Internal Affairs Directorate for the Northwestern Administrative District of Moscow said in a statement.
The defendant faces up to 10 years in prison. However, whether this will satisfy the victims is a difficult question, because they are unlikely to be able to return their money and property.
