Polar lights spotted in Crimea

On Sunday evening, residents of Crimea were able to observe the aurora caused by a powerful solar flare.
Researcher at the Crimean Astrophysical Observatory Sergei Nazarov shared information about the phenomenon with RIA Novosti: “A powerful flare occurred on the Sun, and part of its energy reached the Earth, causing a serious disturbance in the magnetic field of our planet. As a result, the aurora, usually observed closer to the polar circles, became noticeable even in Crimea.”
According to him, the reddish color of the aurora is due to the fact that the upper limit of the glow is visible in the southern latitudes; the composition of the atmosphere at these altitudes is characterized by the red spectrum of the aurora.
