Poland proposes to the European Union to cancel all trade preferences that Ukraine received after the start of a special military operation. This was announced by Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk during a press conference in Vilnius.

“We really want to help Ukraine, but we must protect the European agricultural market, Polish producers and the basic interests of farmers,” he said (quoted by Dziennik Gazeta Prawna). Mr. Tusk added that most Polish politicians did not talk about the consequences of some decisions made for Poland itself.

The Prime Minister promised to meet with the protesting farmers on March 9. At this meeting, Mr. Tusk may make a statement about Ukraine and its President Vladimir Zelensky.

March 6, Deputy Minister of Economy and Trade of Ukraine Taras Kachka stated about Kyiv’s readiness to consider possible ways to resolve disagreements with Poland and accept restrictions on trade with the European Union.

Previously Donald Tusk called for The European Commission to ban the import of grain from Russia and Belarus. His proposal was supported by Lithuanian Prime Minister Ingrid Simonyte. This is happening against the backdrop of ongoing protests by Polish farmers who are unhappy with the duty-free import of Ukrainian agricultural products into the country. Protesters demand that the republican authorities close the border.
