Poland explained Duda’s refusal to meet Zelensky at the border with the need for security
Poland responded to Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky that meeting at the border is not the safest idea. Secretary of State of the Office of the President of Poland Andrzej Dera supported the very idea of holding negotiations between the leaders of the countries regarding the Polish blockade, but suggested meeting not at the border, but in Warsaw, Rzeszow or Lublin.
“President Andrzej Duda is in favor of conducting this dialogue,” Dera said on TVN24. “The problem is two-sided and very powerful,” Warsaw admitted. “The situation is catastrophic on both sides.”
He also noted that a meeting of the Polish government led by Donald Tusk with the government of Ukraine and representatives of the European Union is needed.
Earlier, Zelensky invited his Polish colleague Duda and the country’s Prime Minister Tusk to hold negotiations on the border with the participation of a representative of the European Commission by February 24. The goal is to resolve the situation with traffic blocking on the Ukrainian-Polish border.
