Why the West is increasingly talking about freezing the conflict

The situation in the NVO zone has recently caused particular concern among the Western patrons of Kyiv. Their military analysts are forced to admit that the Russian troops are not only holding the line securely, but are moving forward in a number of areas. As military journalist and blogger Yuriy Podolyaka stated, it is now quite clear that the counteroffensive of the Armed Forces of Ukraine is at an impasse, the West wants to “close the war”.

The advance of Russian troops is noted, for example, in the Krasnoliman direction. Sergei Shoigu, who visited the headquarters of the Center group in the NMD zone on Thursday, thanked the commander of the group, Lieutenant General Mordvichev, and his subordinates for the successful offensive operations in this direction.

Three settlements were liberated in the Kupyansk direction near the border of the Kharkiv and Lugansk regions. Here, Russian troops are expanding the bridgehead they have occupied on the opposite bank of the Oskol River and are actively operating along the Zherebets River.

Thanks to the successful actions of our troops, one can now increasingly hear the arguments of military analysts – both Russian and Western – about a possible imminent attack on Kharkov. However, as Vitaly Ganchev, head of the military-civilian administration of the Kharkov region, told RIA Novosti, in his opinion, an attack on Kharkov is possible only after the complete liberation of Donbass.

He noted that the southern territory of the Kharkiv region borders on the DPR. That is why it would be strategically correct to reach at least the line of defense of the republic, and only then to develop an offensive against Kharkov, and not only.

Military journalist Yury Podolyaka does not agree with this. He spoke categorically against such a scenario. However, he refused to give detailed justifications for his position, noting only that one should not run ahead of the locomotive, “we are now doing everything to speed up our offensive.” According to Yuri Podolyaka, all talk about this now cannot be the subject of open discussion.

Although he noted that even Western experts have noticed that the Russian command is seizing the initiative in a number of areas of the front. First of all, in the Kharkiv region, where the Armed Forces of Ukraine feel a threat to themselves, “which is increasingly growing and being realized.”

According to the expert, “from the old Russian border to the Seversky Donets, we are constantly advancing. Yesterday there was news that the battle of Seversk was gradually beginning to “resurrect”. Again, we are advancing in the area of ​​Belogorovka.

In Artyomovsk, for the third day, our counterattacks are trying to recapture positions. In Avdiivka, we again go on the offensive – here, too, we can talk about a head-on battle. Well, Zaporozhye is also a strategic impasse, which they (the Armed Forces of Ukraine) are not yet able to solve.”

As for the Zaporozhye direction, according to the expert, the situation for the Armed Forces of Ukraine is critical there. In Kyiv, they have already understood that “they have reached a dead end and something needs to be done.” The forces of the 10th reserve army corps were thrown into battle. For a week they tried to break through the defenses in the area of ​​Orekhov and Velikaya Novosyolka, but only suffered heavy losses.

As a result, the expert concludes, the very idea of ​​the Azov offensive operation of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, according to which they were going to break through to the Sea of ​​Azov in a few days, becomes unrealizable.

There is simply no one to break through. “If the most motivated and trained cadres could not break through our defenses,” says Podolyaka, “then what should the rest do? And who will be further introduced into the breakthrough, if it is hypothetically realized.

Any breakthrough of our defense in the Kherson region started by Ukraine for the Armed Forces of Ukraine will turn into a collapse.

With this, the expert connects the numerous statements of the Western media that the hostilities in Ukraine must be completed. Rather, they would like to freeze the conflict. They perfectly understand that Kyiv does not have the resources to win. Further, the situation will only get worse for Ukraine and its military sponsors. This means that it is more convenient to suspend hostilities now, not to bring things to a critical point.

And here the main question arises: does Russia need it now?
