Kartapolov: law on punishment for evasion of mobilization may be adopted in the autumn session

The bill on criminal liability for draft evasion for mobilization will be submitted to the State Duma in the autumn session. About this TASS declared head of the Defense Committee Andrey Kartapolov.

According to him, the parliament can adopt the bill in three readings in the upcoming session. “We will bring it in in the fall. <…> We believe that we will meet the autumn session,” said Kartapolov.

Kartapolov explained that evasion from the mobilization service would be considered the unauthorized abandonment of the unit, as well as an attempt to fail to appear at the military registration and enlistment office after receiving the summons at the appointed time. For this, according to the initiative, a fine of up to 500,000 rubles may be imposed. or imprisonment for up to five years, said the head of the Duma committee.

Earlier sources of Vedomosti reportedthat the government commission on legislative activity approved this bill. According to Kartapolov’s proposal, Art. 328 of the Criminal Code (“Evasion from military and alternative civilian service”), part three. This initiative raises no objections, according to the government’s response, approved at a meeting of the commission in July. Now in the Criminal Code there is only responsibility for evading military service.

August 4 Kartapolov declaredthat there is no smell of any new mobilization in Russia, the bill is not connected with this. According to him, the amendments were prepared last fall, when there was a partial mobilization.

Russian President Vladimir Putin today signed a law that would increase the upper limit of the draft age to 30 from 2024.
