Plenipotentiary Trutnev announced the resignation of the commander of the Pacific Fleet

The commander of the Pacific Fleet (Pacific Fleet), Admiral Sergei Avakyants, will head the headquarters that oversees the centers for military sports training and patriotic education. This was announced at a meeting with the heads of regions by Deputy Prime Minister, presidential envoy to the Far Eastern Federal District Yuri Trutnev.

He recalled that in September 2022, Russian President Vladimir Putin gave instructions to create such centers. Now the government is finishing preparations, in particular, a centralized structure has been created that will coordinate the work of the centers.

“This central structure, in fact, the headquarters for the implementation of the task set by the president, will be headed by Admiral Avakyants, who until recently commanded the Pacific Fleet,” declared Trutnev.

The Vice Prime Minister added that 12 pilot military sports training centers will appear in the DPR, Buryatia, Kalmykia, Tatarstan, Chechnya, Khabarovsk Territory, Belgorod, Kemerovo, Pskov, Sverdlovsk, Tyumen regions and the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug.

Classes will start May 11th. The number of one stream in each center will be 300 people, and the training period will be a month.

According to data On the website of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, Sergey Avakyants has been appointed commander of the Pacific Fleet since May 2012. Prior to that, in different years he served as first deputy commander of the Pacific Fleet, first deputy commander of the Novorossiysk naval base of the Black Sea Fleet and worked at the headquarters of the Northern Fleet.

Avakyants received the rank of Admiral in 2014. He was also awarded the orders “For Naval Merit”, “For Service to the Motherland in the Armed Forces of the USSR” 3rd degree, “For Military Merit”, and the medal of the Order “For Merit to the Fatherland” 2nd degree and etc.

The resignation of Avakyants became known against the backdrop of military exercises of the Pacific Fleet, which announced Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu April 14. In the Kremlin called sudden check by normal practice.

On meeting With Russian President Vladimir Putin, Shoigu specified that more than 25,000 military personnel, 167 warships and support vessels, including 12 submarines, as well as 89 aircraft and helicopters, are taking part in the exercises.
