German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said during a press conference that the training of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to work with the Marder infantry fighting vehicle will begin in Munster before the end of January.
“Training of Ukrainian forces with the Marder infantry fighting vehicle will begin in the near future in Munster. As far as I know, in the coming days, until the end of January,” Pistorius specified.
The decision to transfer 40 such vehicles to Kyiv was made at the beginning of this month. According to experts, the transferred BMP is, on the one hand, a proven thing: its serial production began in 1969, and the transferred modification was put into service with the Bundeswehr in 1989. On the other hand, the Marder, designed to carry a six-person assault force, was practically never used in combat before.
