The Kremlin has no plans to review the status of a special military operation in Ukraine, said presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov.
The journalists asked him to comment on the words of Olga Demicheva, a member of the Human Rights Council, that the SVO is a human rights operation, and also asked if there were plans to review the status of the special operation.
“No, [она] remains a special military operation, and it continues,” Peskov replied.
At the same time, the Kremlin agrees that the SVO is also a human rights operation.
“Indeed, from the very beginning we said that one of the main goals of the operation is protection, namely the protection of the rights, the right to life of the people of Donbass,” he added.
At the awards ceremony for the Russian State Prize laureates on June 12, Demicheva said that she was “far from politics”, but she often visits the Donbass and considers the special operation in Ukraine a human rights operation. She stressed that the residents of Donbass have been shelled by the Armed Forces of Ukraine for nine years, and the number of deaths of children is already hundreds.
June 13 Russian President Vladimir Putin declaredthat the goals of the special military operation in Ukraine are changing in accordance with the current situation, but in general they remain the same, bearing a fundamental character.
In January, Putin, at a meeting with veterans of the Great Patriotic War and residents of besieged Leningrad, said that Russia’s task as part of a special military operation in Ukraine is to protect the people who live in the Donbass. The head of state emphasized that Russia could not help but react to what began to happen in Ukraine after the coup d’état in 2014.
